About the Factor Calculator

Every positive integer greater than 1 can be uniquely expressed as a product of prime numbers โ€” this is the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic. Finding a number's prime factorization reveals its full divisibility structure: the total number of factors can be computed directly from the exponents in the prime factorization.

This calculator finds all factors by trial division up to โˆšn, then lists them in pairs. Simultaneously it builds the prime factorization by extracting the smallest prime factor repeatedly until the quotient is 1. The result shows both the complete factor list and the compact exponential form (e.g., 360 = 2ยณ ร— 3ยฒ ร— 5).

Factor analysis is used in simplifying fractions, computing GCF and LCM, solving modular arithmetic problems, and understanding number patterns. In cryptography, the difficulty of factoring large numbers is the foundation of RSA security. For students, it's one of the core number theory skills tested in standardized exams.

When Should You Use This?

The Factor Calculator is ideally suited for students, teachers, engineers, and scientists who need to perform quick, accurate calculations related to general calculations. Use this tool when you need to verify figures, compare different scenarios, or get a precise answer without manual computation errors.

What Does The Result Mean?

The calculated output provides an instant, accurate resolution to your input parameters. You can use these results directly for your planning, assignments, or professional tasks, knowing they are based on standardized formulas.

Example Calculation

Finding all factors and prime factorization of 360

๐Ÿ“ฅ Inputs

  • Number: 360

๐Ÿ”ข Calculation Steps

  1. 1Divide by smallest prime (2): 360 รท 2 = 180
  2. 2180 รท 2 = 90
  3. 390 รท 2 = 45
  4. 445 รท 3 = 15
  5. 515 รท 3 = 5
  6. 65 is prime โ†’ stop
  7. 7Prime factorization: 2ยณ ร— 3ยฒ ร— 5
  8. 8Total factors: (3+1)ร—(2+1)ร—(1+1) = 4ร—3ร—2 = 24 factors
  9. 9All factors: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36, 40, 45, 60, 72, 90, 120, 180, 360
โœ…360 = 2ยณ ร— 3ยฒ ร— 5. It has 24 factors including 1 and 360 itself.

Limitations of this Calculator

  • โš ๏ธResults are based purely on the mathematical relationship of the inputs provided.
  • โš ๏ธDoes not account for edge cases or extreme outlier values that fall outside standard formula constraints.
  • โš ๏ธCalculated outputs should be double-checked against your specific real-world requirements before finalizing important decisions.
