Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good SAT score?
The national average is around 1010โ1060. A 1200 is above average (74th percentile), 1400 is very strong (95th percentile), and 1500+ is elite (98th+). 'Good' depends on your target universities โ research average scores for admitted students.
What is the Digital SAT?
The Digital SAT (launched 2024) replaced the paper SAT. It's shorter (2 hours 14 minutes vs. 3 hours), adaptive by section, and scored the same (400โ1600). The Math section still covers Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem Solving & Data Analysis, and Geometry.
How is the SAT score converted to a percentile?
Percentile rank shows what percentage of test takers you scored equal to or better than. A 1400 score is approximately the 95th percentile, meaning you scored higher than 95% of test takers. Percentiles are recalculated periodically by College Board.
How do I improve my SAT score?
Targeted practice is most effective: identify weak areas using official practice tests, use Khan Academy's free personalized SAT prep (official College Board partner), and take 3+ full-length practice tests under real test conditions. Most students improve 50โ150 points with 8+ weeks of dedicated prep.
