Frequently Asked Questions

Normalize your GPA to a 0–1 range: normalized = GPA / 4.0. Then multiply by 10: 10-point = normalized × 10. Example: 3.5/4.0 = 0.875 × 10 = 8.75. Note: many Indian universities use CGPA × 9.5 for percentage conversion, which is different from this scale conversion.
German grades are inverse — 1.0 is the best (equivalent to A+) and 5.0 is fail (equivalent to F). Conversion: normalized = (5 - german_grade) / 4. So a German 1.3 = (5-1.3)/4 = 0.925 normalized ≈ 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.
Australian universities use a 7-point scale: 7=High Distinction (85%+), 6=Distinction (75-84%), 5=Credit (65-74%), 4=Pass (50-64%), 1-3=Fail. Approximate conversion: Australian 7 ≈ US 4.0, Australian 5 ≈ US 3.0, Australian 4 ≈ US 2.0.
Most Western universities accept international transcripts and use professional evaluators (WES in North America, NARIC in UK) to assess foreign credentials. Always include both your native GPA on its scale AND the converted equivalent, along with official transcripts.

Sobre Esta Calculadora

Academic institutions worldwide use different GPA scales, and most graduate schools and employers reviewing international applications need a conversion to make sense of foreign transcripts. The normalization approach — dividing by the input scale's maximum, then multiplying by the target scale's maximum — is the most widely used method.

Germany complicates things because its grading scale is inverse: 1.0 is the highest grade and 5.0 is failing. The Germany preset handles this automatically by flipping the scale before normalizing.

Always present your original GPA on its native scale alongside any conversion. Evaluators who are familiar with your country's system will often trust the original number more than a conversion, which can vary by methodology. This calculator shows the conversion formula used, so you can cite it if asked.

Exemplo Resolvido

Converting an Indian 10-point CGPA to a US 4.0 GPA

Entradas:

  • CGPA on Indian 10.0 scale: 8.3
  • Target scale: US 4.0

Passo a Passo:

  1. Normalize: 8.3 / 10.0 = 0.83
  2. Convert to 4.0 scale: 0.83 × 4.0 = 3.32
  3. Percentage equivalent: 8.3 × 9.5 = 78.85% (UGC standard formula)
  4. Approximate US letter grade: B+ / A-
Resultado: Indian CGPA 8.3/10.0 ≈ US GPA 3.32/4.0 ≈ 78.85%. When applying to US graduate schools, report both your native 8.3/10.0 and the 3.32/4.0 equivalent, along with your official transcript.

Dicas

  • German grades run inverse (1.0 = excellent, 5.0 = fail) — use the Germany preset for correct conversion.
  • Australian GPA 4.0 (HD) converts to US 3.7–4.0; Australian 3.0 (D) ≈ US 3.3.
  • When applying internationally, always include both your native scale and the converted value.
