Frequently Asked Questions

Simple interest is calculated only on the original principal: SI = P × R × T. Compound interest earns interest on the accumulated interest too — each period's interest is added to the principal. On ₹1L at 10% for 10 years: simple interest gives ₹2L, compound interest (annual) gives ₹2.59L — a 30% difference that grows dramatically over longer periods.
More frequent compounding produces higher effective returns. At 10% nominal rate: annual compounding gives 10% effective rate; monthly gives 10.47%; daily gives 10.52%. The difference seems small but compounds significantly over 10–20 year periods.
The Rule of 72 quickly estimates doubling time: divide 72 by the annual interest rate. At 8% p.a., money doubles in 72÷8 = 9 years. At 12%, it doubles in 6 years. It's an approximation — the actual formula is: doubling time = ln(2) / ln(1+r).
In India: FDs offer 6.5–7.5%, PPF offers 7.1% (tax-free), equity mutual funds have historically given 12–15% CAGR over 10+ years. In the US: high-yield savings accounts offer 4–5%, S&P 500 historical average is ~10% nominal (7% inflation-adjusted). Always compare post-tax, inflation-adjusted returns.
Use the Present Value formula: PV = FV ÷ (1+r)ⁿ. To have ₹1 crore in 20 years at 12% annual returns: PV = 1,00,00,000 ÷ (1.12)²⁰ = ₹10,37,000 today. This calculator's goal-seek mode does this calculation automatically.

  1. Insira seu saldo inicial.
  2. Defina a taxa de juros anual esperada.
  3. Defina a frequência de capitalização.
  4. Opcionalmente, adicione uma contribuição mensal.

Fórmula

A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt)
Where A is final amount, P is principal, r is annual rate, n is compounding frequency, t is time in years.

Dicas

  • Does not guarantee future returns if the interest rate is variable (e.g., stock market returns).
  • Real purchasing power will be lower due to inflation unless you use the inflation-adjusted view.

📘 The Magic of Compounding

Compound interest earns interest on both the principal AND previously earned interest. Albert Einstein reportedly called it "the eighth wonder of the world." Even a 1% difference in return rate compounds dramatically over decades — start early and invest regularly.
